Engineering Capabilities
L3Harris Unmanned Systems employs a full systems integration engineering capability to solve the most demanding UAS requirements in today’s Aerospace community. These areas of expertise drove the development and production of our initial air- and ground-launched Group 2 and Group 3 Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).  More importantly, our engineering capability continues to lead our technical advancements and leadership role in the Small UAS and mid-endurance UAS industry through the continual improvement of our advanced prototyping and development.  Our engineering capability includes rapid airframe and platform design to include aerodynamic and aero-structure mechanical design, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and real-time embedded software integration. L3Harris Unmanned Systems’ guidance, navigation, and control systems experts provide discriminating capability within each of our unmanned aircraft.  Prior to conducting our organic field and flight testing, L3Harris Unmanned Systems routinely tests each major design with industry-leading 6 degrees of freedom simulation modeling and wind tunnel analysis.

L3’s manufacturing capability supports the full range of systems integration, including rapid and efficient prototype design and development, test and modification, and subsequent low-rate and full-rate production.  Our manufacturing capabilities afford Unmanned Systems the ability to efficiently design and prototype advanced concepts, and transition the most compelling UAS capability to production.  Our machining technologies provide Unmanned Systems the capability to manufacture precision parts for prototype and product assemblies. We routinely manufacture advanced composite structures in all shapes and sizes using Kevlar®, Carbon Fiber, Fiberglass and other composite material for customer prototypes,  as well as our own product lines of ground- and air-launched Small UAS, mid-endurance UAS, ground stations and custom ISR pods.

Flight Operations Capabilities
Flight Operations expertise is a critical capability which L3 Unmanned Systems maintains and exercises on our most demanding programs.  Our Flight Operations Team is experienced in small and mid-endurance UAS,  and is an essential element within our prototype and development testing, universal payload integration, and Customer Viking 300 and Viking 400 Group 3 UAS training programs.  L3Harris Unmanned Systems harnesses two decades of practical UAS experience and over 60 combined years of senior leadership experience to ensure our customer’s requirements are fulfilled with high-quality solutions in the most efficient manner possible.
